Our Mission
Gold price information is fragmented across regions and currencies. A buyer in Muscat, a jeweler in Riyadh, and an investor in Cairo all need the same underlying data — yet typically pay for it through unclear margins or rely on outdated mobile apps. GoldPrice.Live exists to provide one transparent, real-time, free, bilingual reference that anyone in the gold-trading regions can trust.
Where Our Data Comes From
We aggregate data from established public market-data sources:
- Spot gold price (USD/oz): Yahoo Finance front-month COMEX gold futures (ticker: GC=F). This is the price referenced by professional traders worldwide and tracks the LBMA London fix closely.
- Foreign exchange rates: ExchangeRate-API, sourced from European Central Bank and other major monetary authorities.
- Historical chart data: Yahoo Finance OHLC time series.
All data is fetched server-side and cached for up to 60 seconds. We refresh prices every minute. Source feeds are clearly named in our codebase and disclosed in our Privacy Policy.
How Prices Are Calculated
For each karat displayed, we compute the price per gram in your local currency using this formula:
price_per_gram = (spot_USD_per_oz / 31.1034768) × karat_purity × USD_to_local_rate
Karat purity is the international standard: 24K = 0.999, 22K = 0.916, 21K = 0.875, 18K = 0.75, 14K = 0.585, 10K = 0.417. Per-tola pricing uses the South Asian tola weight of 11.6638 grams.
Important: these are reference prices for the metal content only. They do not include making charges, dealer margins, retail markup, taxes, or VAT — all of which vary by country and shop. See our Terms of Service for the full disclaimer.
Editorial Standards
All articles in our Insights section are written or thoroughly edited for accuracy. We do not republish wire copy as our own. We disclose data sources, link to primary references where relevant, and clearly distinguish factual reporting from analytical opinion. Pricing data has no editorial layer — it flows directly from the data providers listed above.
